NEWS - PEOPLE IN THE NEWS Newmont Mining Corp. announced President and COO Gary Goldberg will become president and CEO, and join the board of directors March 1, 2013. He will succeed Richard O'Brien who will step down as CEO and retire from the board at that time. Xstrata plc announced that CFO Trevor Reid has decided not to take the position of CFO of Glencore Xstrata plc upon completion of the merger with Glencore International plc. He has agreed to act as consultant to the combined group for a period of up to six months following completion of the merger. Centaurus Metals has appointed John Westdorp CFO. China Shen Zhou Mining & Resources, Inc. has appointed Hai Hu CFO. Rubicon Minerals Corp. has appointed Mike Lalonde president and CEO. David Adamson will resign his position as CEO and assume the position of non-executive chairman. Gary Goldberg Teck Resources Ltd. has appointed Dean Winsor vice president of human resources. Alamos Gold Inc. has appointed Jo Mira Clodman vice president of investor relations. Fortune Minerals Ltd. has appointed Mike Romaniuk vice president of operations. Great Basin Gold Ltd. has appointed Ray Dombrowski CEO and Peter Gibson CFO. Lou van Vuuren has resigned as interim-CEO and director of the company, but will assist with the transition on a consulting basis. Mike Lalonde Mindoro Resources Ltd. has appointed Tony Climie CEO. Tetra Tech, Inc. has appointed John M. Young vice president of mine closure. Centerra Gold Inc. announced that Ronald H. Colquhoun, vice president and COO, will retire in Jo Mira Clodman February 2013. Gordon D. Reid, vice president of operations, has been promoted to vice president and COO. Also, retiring from the board of directors is Anthony J. Webb. The board has appointed Ian Atkinson, president and CEO, to fill this vacancy. John M. The National Mining Association has appointed Nancy Gravatt senior vice president of communications. She replaces Carol Raulston, who will remain with the NMA until May 15, when she plans to retire. Mintec announced that Abdullah Arik recently passed away. He joined the company in 1982. In the late 1980s and 1990s, he collaborated with Andre Journel and Danie Krige, pioneers in the field of geotstatistics. Earlier this year, he accepted a bronze commemorative statue for his three decades of service to Mintec. Toro Energy Ltd. announced that Managing Director Greg Hall will resign in February 2013. Dr. Vanessa Guthrie, currently executive general manager-Wiluna project, will assume the role of managing director. Hall will remain on the Toro Energy board as a non-executive director. Brigus Gold Corp. announced that Daniel Racine has been promoted to president and COO. Quartz Mountain Resources Ltd. has appointed Scott Cousens to the board of directors. He has also been appointed chairman of the board, replacing Robert Dickinson who is stepping down as chairman, but will remain a director. Estrella Gold Corp. has appointed Mark T. Brown has been appointed interim president and CEO. Keith Daniel Racine Laskowski has stepped down from his positions as director, president and CEO to accept an appointment with the International Finance Corp.
