40 E&MJ; • JUNE 2014 www.e-mj.com As a family-owned business for more than a century, Deister Machine Company Inc. plays an integral role within the mining and aggre- gate industries. Many of the world's largest producers prefer its high-quality line of feed- ing, scalping and screening equipment. Each piece of equipment is customized to meet specific customer needs—an aspect that is critical to the cost-efficient processing of varying materials within the mining and aggregate industries. To deliver maximum performance and productivity, Deister equip- ment is designed to integrate with all compo- nents of the mining process. High-capacity Mine-duty Screens Continuing its commitment to ongoing inno- vation, Deister recently launched its new BFO-11224-EX2 Mine-duty Screen. Offering the next generation in machine size and production output, this 12-ft x 24-ft, horizon- tal, single-deck unit delivers day-to-day relia- bility and high-volume capacities in a variety of hard rock mining and mineral processing applications. The BFO-11224 Mine-duty Screen fea- tures the new Deister EX Series of geared exciters, which are designed to create the force output required to drive today's large screens. Geared exciters feature all-steel components; specially coated bearing inner races to deter wear on shafts; and shafts that are case-hardened and ground for minimal wear. Mechanisms are sealed to minimize oil contaminants and maximize bearing life. Seals ride on replaceable ceramic coated spacers that minimize heat and increase seal life up to 10 times that of conventional steel spacers and seals. To meet the most stringent structural specifications, the BFO-11224-EX2 features fully bolted construction as well as the use of A572-Grade 50 steel. For ease of mainte- nance, the unit is engineered with independ- ent cross beams. The Deister Mine-duty Horizontal BFO Model Screen Series features a size range from 3-ft x 4-ft, and up to 12-ft x 28-ft units; and deck configurations from a single deck up to four decks. Models are either eccentric shaft driven or geared exciter driven. Deister has the ability to customize a screen to suit exacting requirements such as existing foot- prints, restricted overhead space, high-vol- ume processing, and more. Engineering Expertise and Quality Assurance Deister application engineers work closely with customers to develop customized solu- tions that meet the toughest specification challenges. Whether retrofitting to an existing operation or providing components for a new operation, the Deister team partners with cus- tomers from the initial analysis of the appli- cation; through the design and manufacturing process; and into the installation and startup phase. Each step is completed with the cus- tomer's end goals at the forefront. Using state-of-the-art design tools, Deister engineers ensure that every screening and/or feeding component and circuit is designed to deliver greater efficiency while lowering oper- ating costs per ton. Most important is an ongoing commit- ment to only the highest quality level. And, Deister combines this discipline with preci- sion machining and welding, followed by rig- orous testing prior to shipping to ensure that each piece of equipment performs to its opti- mum potential each and every day. Advanced engineering tools such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Mechanical Event Simulation (MES) help Deister engi- neers optimize designs. State-of-the-art vibra- tion analysis tools are used to baseline every machine during the QC inspection to check bearings, gears, orbits, side motion and natu- ral frequencies. A Deister Vibration Technician utilizes vibration analysis to predict or identify any detrimental operating conditions, while providing insight into what modifications are needed. Vibration analysis collects data on parameters such as nat- ural frequencies, displacements and stroke amplitude, and the operation of bearings and gears. Impact Testing is con- ducted to determine natural frequencies that could cause issues at run speeds, or would require structural changes.
