88 E&MJ; • JULY 2014 E Q U I P M E N T G A L L E R Y www.e-mj.com Cat reported that its new 990K wheel loader has more power and increased payload, a redesigned cab, and features that enhance operator and maintenance technician safety. Well-suited as a loading tool for Cat's 773, 775 and 777 haul trucks ranging from 60- to 100-ton [54 to 91 metric tons (mt)] capa- city, the new 990K replaces the H version and offers engine configurations to meet customer needs worldwide. The loader's rated payload is 17.5 tons (16 mt), com- pared with the 16.5-ton (15-mt) payload of the H Series model. The increased payload makes the new loader a four-pass match with Cat's 775 truck. New Performance series buckets are available in sizes ranging from 11.25 to 13 yd 3 (8.6 to 10 m 3 ). A Cat C27 ACERT engine powers the 990K and delivers 699 net hp (521 kW)— an 11% increase in power compared with the previous model, without any change in fuel consumption. The 990K is available as a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 4 Final version and as a Tier 2 ver- sion for less regulated regions. No regenera- tion or operator intervention is required for the NO x reduction system and diesel oxida- tion catalyst fitted to the Tier 4 Final model. An optional ground level service center displays fluid level status, houses drain-and- fill ports and provides a data port for diag- nostic work. A number of additional options are available to tailor the loader for specific applications and sites, including an option- al high lift linkage that enables the 990K to load Cat 777 trucks, or an integrated axle cooling package and ride control options that are beneficial in load-and-carry work. www.cat.com DTH Hammer Line Optimizes Impact Energy Sandvik Mining has added 6- and 8-in. models to its RH460 DTH hammer family, along with new 4- and 5-in. RH460hp air- efficient high-pressure hammers designed to operate at 32–35 bar (450–500 psi). At 35 bar, according to the company, RH460hp hammers consume less fuel and cost less to operate than similar hammers at the same pressure. The high-pressure ham- mers, matched for Sandvik's DR500-series and the company's new Pantera rigs, feature the same benefits as all RH460 hammers. According to Sandvik, its growing RH460 family optimizes impact-energy transmission in variable ground conditions. Enhanced air cycle improves expansion and compression rates, producing more power while reducing air and fuel con- sumption. Developments in piston design and improved lubrication capabilities increase piston and hammer life across the RH460 series. Sandvik said it has devoted significant R&D; work into designing the bearing surfaces to ensure bending vibra- tions in the piston are eliminated. RH460 hammers also feature a unique V-lock mount system designed to prevent move- ment of the internal components, ensuring reliability and eliminating the need for shims and special assembly tools. The working principle of the RH460 range ensures that the hammers start up in any direction, making their design useful for all surface and underground mining applications; and, said Sandvik, the design of the RH460 series makes the hammers easy to service. The entire range is designed to utilize bits with generic shank types. www.sandvik.com System Powers Networks in Remote Locations Motion Computing, a global provider of rugged mobile solutions, recently announced the availability of new LINCWorks RDA (Rugged Deploy Any- where) accessories that provide efficient charging and expanded coverage. Motion launched LINCWorks, a family of portable, easily deployed wireless connectivity devices, in 2013. The devices, according to the company, make it easy to instantly create a cohesive WAN/LAN, cell and/or mesh communications infrastructure any- time, anywhere. The new line of acces- sories includes a solar panel, a rugged tele- scoping stand and multidirectional anten- nas. LINCWorks was designed specifically for work environments where connectivity is unreliable.
