SUPPLIERS REPORT m/sec, the hoist will raise 600 mt/h of ore. ABB's ACS 6000 medium voltage drive system will power a 9,000-kW syn- chronous motor to run the hoist. The hoist design, said ABB, will minimize impact on the surrounding power network. ABB will also design and supply the bottom dump ore skips with inspection platforms, the rope deflection sheaves and a skip dumping system. ABB's System 800xA AC800M industrial con- troller will manage and control the entire mine hoisting system, from the loading conveyors to the surface ore dump station. Delivery is scheduled to be completed in the second half of 2013. Sandvik Partners with Flanders, Signs Tool Agreement with Cortech Sandvik Mining & Construction and Indiana, USA-based Flanders Electric have formed a partnership to automate surface mining drill rigs and provide autonomous operation. Flanders' ARDVARC systems have been installed on numerous blasthole drills around the world. For factory-sup- plied systems on new Sandvik drills, the initial automation modules will be offered starting in the first quarter of 2012 on machines with electric-over-hydraulic controls. "Together, we will deliver automated and autonomous machines directly from the factory, and offer sophisticated retro- fits for more than 2,000 Sandvik drill rigs currently operating globally," said Gregg Scanlan, vice president of surface drilling equipment at Sandvik. "Our strategy is to combine proven automation with world- class drill rigs and a strong global after- market support." Sandvik also reported it has signed an agreement with Cortech, the largest manufacturer of fully hydraulic explo- ration drill rigs in China, under which Cortech will distribute Sandvik explo- ration tooling (RC and coring drill rods, bits, wireline and exploration products) and will be the agent in China for Sandvik exploration drill rigs. A collabo- ration agreement was also signed under which the two companies will use com- mercial and technical synergies of both companies. According to Sandvik, this is the first stage of planned long-term com- mercial and technical cooperation in many fields, including joint R&D;, manu- facturing and sales. www.e-mj.com Fortescue Buys Fleet of Vermeer SEMs Vermeer Corp. recently announced Fortescue Metals Group of East Perth, Australia, plans to purchase 14 Vermeer Terrain Leveler surface excavation machines (SEMs) to be used at Fortescue's iron ore operations in Western Australia. Order delivery is scheduled to begin in December 2011 and additional machines will ship through September 2012. "This order comes after significant investment in product development by Vermeer, as well as commitment by the local dealer to support the operations," said Mark Cooper, senior director for spe- cialty excavation with Vermeer. According to Iowa, USA-based Vermeer, its SEMs allow mines to utilize precision surface mining, allowing producers to selec- tively extract mineral seams in surface min- ing applications. Customers also can control material sizing, producing material in a uni- form configuration so minerals can be han- dled more efficiently than product produced by drilling and blasting. The uniform prod- uct size allows more efficient settings on secondary and tertiary crushing systems. The company's Terrain Leveler machines are offered in five different size/capacity ratings, starting with a 350- hp (260-kW) unit capable of digging a swatch 32 in. (81 cm) deep and 102 in. (259 cm) wide; to the largest, a 600-hp (447-kW) machine that cuts a 27-in.-deep (68.6-cm), 144-in.-wide (366-cm) path. Satcom Services Expand for Mexican Mining Market Vizada, a major provider of satellite net- work operator services, and Mexican serv- ice provider MultiSAT announced in late October they are now offering a broad range of mobile satellite services and solu- tions for the Mexican mining industry, including IsatPhone Link; vehicular BGAN; and the Iridium Extreme handset with inte- grated GPS. Through its partnership with Vizada, MultiSAT offers voice and broadband data services across multiple satellite network operators, including Inmarsat, Iridium and Thuraya. "Satellite communications offers min- ing organizations great onsite benefits," said Fabio Alencar, director of Latin American sales for Vizada. "Organizations and on-the-ground personnel get an instant connection, see significant improvements in efficiency and portability, and more importantly, they can better ensure workers' safety wherever they may be." MultiSAT sells and services Vizada's entire portfolio involving basic broadband and IP-based connectivity services on land, at sea or in flight. Solutions include mes- saging, Fixed2Mobile calling, prepaid solu- tions and IP and networking applications. The Vizada Group was formed in September 2007 and combines the former Telenor Satellite Services and France Telecom Mobile Satellite Communications, both formerly owned by Apax France. The services include: • IsatPhone Link: Complementing the IsatPhone Pro handset introduced earlier this year, this is a land-based, global satellite phone service providing voice connectivity and circuit-switched data and messaging communications. Isat- Phone Link can be used as a remote call center, serving as an exploration site phone or as a temporary fixed location phone. It can also be used for providing remote site offices with voice connect- ivity or serve as backup to primary communications. • Vehicular BGAN: Comprising an interior terminal and tracking antenna mounted on a vehicle's roof, Vehicular BGAN delivers mobile voice and high-speed data connectivity. • Iridium Extreme: This Iridium handset has fully integrated GPS to allow for loca- tion-based services such as online track- ing and emergency SOS notification. Vizada says its secure web portal enables administrators to view and monitor Iridium Extreme users in the field through available tracking and mapping services. Cepcor Becomes FLSmidth Gyratory Service Provider Crusher spare and wear parts manufacturer Crusher Manganese Steels Ltd. (CMS Cepcor), said it has formalized a five-year service agreement with FLSmidth covering the supply of repairs and services for the Fuller-Traylor primary gyratory range of crush- ers in the local market. CMS Cepcor, found- ed in 1989, is a Europe-based aftermarket manufacturer and supplier of machined crusher spare parts, premium manganese steel crusher wear parts and crusher service to the mining, quarrying, demolition and recycling industries worldwide.
