REGIONAL NEWS - U.S. & CANADA Trevali also is developing the Stratmat deposit, a satellite deposit to Halfmile, and will process Stratmat ore at the Caribou mill. Due to the superior quality of the Halfmile-Stratmat mineralization (coarse with good metallurgical characteristics), modeling of the Caribou mill grinding cir- cuit indicates that it can be readily modi- fied to produce saleable zinc, lead and copper concentrates. Trevali also anticipates the Caribou mine can be brought back into production. A historic, non-NI 43-101 resource for one near-surface zone suggests that it could contain 2.5 million mt at 0.89% copper, 3.2% zinc, 1% lead, and 40 g/mt silver; however, Trevali cautions that this estimate is historicalin nature and that more work is required to define an NI 43- 101 resource. Trevali also believes the COMPANY PROFILE-PAID ADVERTISEMENT GIW Industries, Inc. Over the last century GIW Industries, Inc. has made its way to the forefront of the slurry pump industry. The company, located in Grovetown, Georgia, USA, has successfully solved its customers' pumping problems by acquiring an unparalleled understanding of slurry pumps and systems and advancing slurry technology— one problem at a time. This translates into pumps that last longer, reduce operating costs and improve production. Pumps Built on True Application Testing GIW knows that wear life is the most critical factor in the design of a slurry pump. With over 40 technical papers and over 30 years of research, GIW leads the world in wear modeling technology. Rock Solid Solutions Recently, GIW introduced its new Mill Duty Xtra Heavy (MDX) slurry pump. The MDX is GIW's newest strategically developed product to satisfy customer demand in the hard rock industry. Developed to increase productivity and decrease costs, all MDX pumps are designed to match the life cycle of mill circuit operations. GIW uses system modeling tools to identify the duty conditions and to select the best solution for each pumping application. The Company As a part of KSB's worldwide pump and valve group, GIW offers single-source solutions for both water and slurry pump problems for customers from the Ukraine to Chile to China. Together both companies have over 150 years of experience in pumps and hydraulics. For complicated slurry transport applications, there's no substitute for that kind of rock solid experience. Trevali notes that acquisition of the Caribou mill provides very significant financial, technical, de-risk and timing benefits as opposed to permitting and building a new, stand-alone Halfmile- Stratmat mill. Seabridge Updates KSM Preliminary Feasibility Study Seabridge Gold reported the results of an updated, NI 43-101-compliant preliminary feasibility study (PFS) for its 100%-owned KSM (Kerr-Sulphurets-Mitchell) project in northern British Columbia in mid-May 2012. Since completion of an earlier PFS in June 2011, Seabridge has hosted work- ing group sessions with federal and provin- cial regulators, aboriginal groups, and technical consultants to review the project in detail. Feedback from this process has been used to design changes that have been incorporated into the new PFS. The project's strip ratio has been substantially reduced from 2.7:1 to 1.5:1, eliminating approximately 2.3 billion mt of waste-rock stripping and storage and sig- nificantly reducing environmental impact. Access routes to the project have been revised to reflect feedback from the Nisga'a Nation and First Nations. A portion of the tailings management facility for carbon-in-leach sulphide tail- ings processed with cyanide will be lined. Such a lining is not required under existing regulations; however, Seabridge has elect- ed to design the tailings management facil- ity to the standards of the International Cyanide Management Code to accommo- date feedback from Treaty and First Nations, regulators, and stakeholders. Engineering for the tailings management facility and project water management has been completed to a feasibility level as required by regulators for the Environ- mental Assessment. The new PFS incorporates updated capital and operating cost estimates and metal price assumptions. While initial cap- ital costs and unit operating costs have increased over the 2011 study by 13% and 3%, respectively, base case economic projections from the new PFS are superior to the 2011 study due to a 10,000-mt/d increase in plant throughput to 130,000 mt/d and higher three-year average metal prices. Mine life is estimated at 55 years. Payback has been reduced by six months to 6.2 years. www.e-mj.com
