NEWS - CALENDAR OF EVENTS To handle 10 million mt/y of plant throughput, a second processing facility will be built alongside the existing plant and will leverage off the infrastructure and overheads already in place. Con- struction will include milling, gravity, and CIL circuits. The existing processing facility is industry standard technology and has performed above expectations in both recovery and throughput, hence Asanko's decision to replicate the facility for the expansion to 10 million mt/y. The plan represents a low-risk option as the major- ity of the equipment will be duplicated, and the plant operators and maintenance staff are very familiar with all the equip- ment that will be installed. Synergies will be realized through common spares and common reagents. The existing gold room will be expand- ed to include two additional electrowin- ning cells, a drying oven, and a larger gold furnace to accommodate the increase in gold production. (News-Leading Developments - from p. 6) "This is an attempt by an anti-mining NGO to oppose mining and other devel- opment in Guatemala despite the many benefits that these projects bring to local communities," said Ron Clayton, presi- dent and CEO of Tahoe Resources. "Given the extensive consultation and socializa- tion process followed by both MEM and Minera San Rafael leading to issuance of the Escobal license, we are confident that the current claim is without merit." "We responsibly conduct our business in alignment with international standards and consistently demonstrate an ongoing commitment to Guatemalans through em- ployment, skills training, tax and royalty payments and sustainability programs," Clayton said. "As a result, we continue to enjoy significant community and govern- ment support within the country. This is best demonstrated by the success of our Escobal operation since we reached com- mercial production in January 2014." Under Guatemalan law, MEM has 48 hours from the date of notice (May 23) to issue a response to the Supreme Court, after which the Supreme Court is expect- ed to issue an initial ruling in the next four weeks. The claim thus far has had no impact on operations at the mine. (Regional News-Latin America - from p. 16) "With these significant divestitures, we will transfer 28 mining-related permits, reduce surety bonding by approximately $3.5 million, eliminate future reclama- tion spending at these sites, and further reduce our annual holding cost for inac- tive and idle properties by approximately $1.1 million," Stetson said. "Addition- ally, $2.7 million in self bonding will be eliminated as part of these sales, which will assist ANR in meeting its obligations to the state of West Virginia. "As with previous divestitures, Alpha has been able to enter into agreements with third parties that have indicated a desire to restart these operations and re- store many jobs to the local community," Stetson said. Stetson indicated Alpha will continue to pursue sales of other non-strategic as- sets in the coming months. Terms of the transactions were not released. (News-This Month In Coal - from p. 28)
