OCTOBER 2017 • E&MJ; 71 www.e-mj.com SUPPLIERS REPORT Rolls-Royce Gets Hybrid Engine Tech Use Rights Rolls-Royce acquired exclusive rights of use for a new technology for the elec- trically assisted charging of off-highway combustion engines in the power range above 450 kilowatts. The electrically assisted charging sys- tem comprises an electric drive combined with a traditional turbocharger developed and manufactured by MTU. As a result, the turbocharger can be accelerated electrical- ly and the charge pressure built up earlier. The technology is ideally suited to die- sel and gas engines. Rolls-Royce plans to offer engines of its MTU brand with this technology by 2021. Fortescue Further Adopts Cat Command Caterpillar and Fortescue agreed to ex- pand use of Cat Command for Hauling at the latter's iron ore mines in Pilbara, Western Australia. This will include retro- fitting approximately 100 Cat 793F and 789D and Komatsu 930E truck models at the Chichester Hub, as well as an expan- sion of the Cat 793F autonomous truck fleet at the Solomon Hub operations. The Command for Hauling system is built on a foundation of the other Cat MineStar System capability sets. Caterpillar is working closely with Fortescue, Thiess Contractors, and the Cat dealer in Western Australia, We- sTrac, to provide a solution for managing, op- erating and supporting Cat MineStar System and Command for Hauling. FLSmidth Opens Office in Ghana FLSmidth will open a new office in Accra, Ghana. The office will provide a hub for regional operations, as there is already a large installed base not just in Ghana but in other neighboring countries, includ- ing Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Mali and Guinea. The Accra office will be staffed by Ghanaian employees. The office will also be a venue for product and process training for custom- ers. It was expected to be fully operation- al by the end of September. Jacobs to Provide SPCC Acid Plant Jacobs Engineering Group was selected by Southern Peru Copper Corp. (SPCC) to provide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for its No. 1 Acid Plant upgrade project. Under the terms of this lump sum EPC contract, Jacobs will perform mod- ifications to the existing acid plant, de- creasing its sulphur dioxide emissions while increasing sulphuric acid produc- tion capacity through the use of Jacobs' Chemetics sulphuric acid technology. In addition to the acid plant project, Jacobs is performing a feasibility study for SPCC in Lima for its power distribu- tion system that will enable the company to support future demand. Bridgestone Releases Guidelines Poster/Video Bridgestone Americas released a poster and video containing guidelines on identi- fying and reporting irregular tire, rim and wheel conditions early.
