74 E&MJ; • DECEMBER 2017 www.e-mj.com EQUIPMENT GALLERY At an international press event recently in Leoben, Austria, Liebherr showcased its T 236 mining truck. This 100-metric-ton (mt) haul truck, which is powered by a diesel-electric drive system, is the fi rst in this class with a four-corner, oil immersed braking system. Since its debut at MINEx- po 2016 in Las Vegas, the T 236 has suc- cessfully completed its testing phase and has recently started its fi rst fi eld operation trials at the Erzberg iron mine in Austria. Capitalizing on decades of experience in off-highway truck technologies, the T 236 takes advantage of Liebherr's elec- tric-drive system innovations with the ver- tically integrated Litronic Plus Generation 2 AC drive system. An industry fi rst, Liebherr's Litronic Plus Isolation system ensures the safety of maintenance personnel through the elimination of hazards by design. To en- sure safety, the T 236 is equipped with double-pole battery, starter motor and hoist system isolators as standard. Each plug and drive power module are electri- cally interlocked to grounding devices. Operating on a voltage level of 690 VAC and 900 VDC enables regular site techni- cians to carry out system maintenance. The revolutionary in-line electrical pow- er train layout minimizes cable length, while the maintenance-free IP 68-rated plug-and-drive power modules ensure re- liable operation in all-weather situations. Combined with the extended life service intervals and minimized maintenance time offered by the ground-level service points, the T 236 ensures maximum uptime. The ergonomic T 236 cab and the su- perior properties of the front-wheel sus- pension system promotes driver effi cien- cy with comfort, safety, acceleration and handling for improved performance. The next evolution in Electric Drive System design, Liebherr's Litronic Plus Generation 2 drive system introduces advanced Active Front End technology. Making effi cient use of electrical energy during retarding events, the drive system controls engine speed with almost no fuel consumption. A variable-speed hydraulic system reduces parasitic losses to provide maximum power, while lowering fuel con- sumption when power is not required. With its high takeoff torque and con- tinuous power to ground capability, the T 236 is less sensitive to grade and pay- load variations. www.liebherr.com Screen Removes Large Rock Before Crushing Lake Erie Portable Screeners introduced the Pitbull PB148 Static Grizzly, a screen that pairs with the Pitbull 2300 screening plant and is for sorting oversize material before screening or crushing. The 6,500- lb screen offers an 11-by-14-ft deck area and a 10-ft tip height. The bars are 3 in. wide with 3/8-in. wall thickness, and are spaced at 4 in. Additional bars are avail- able if smaller openings are required. The grizzly includes features to allow simple bar removal or adjustments as well as transportability, the company re- ported. It is built with 18 bars with two sets of bolts and nuts driven completely through the bar and support. The grizzly bars are also self-cleaning, the compa- ny reported. The PB148 features square steel tubes that rest on an angle to create a diamond shape and tapered openings. This eliminates material getting stuck between the bars. pitbullscreeners.com New Size for Mining Tire Line Goodyear added a new tire size, 20.5R25, to the AS-3A, an all-season tire for min- ing applications. The high net-to-gross 20.5R25 has a 40/32-in. tread depth (G3/ L3) for enhanced traction, the company reported. Other features of the Goodyear Liebherr Completes Field Tests for T236 Hauler
