76 E&MJ; • DECEMBER 2017 www.e-mj.com EQUIPMENT GALLERY New High-strength Steel for Gears TimkenSteel released three patent-pending ultra-high-strength, high-toughness steels. The grades' higher levels of strength and toughness offer gear designers/manufac- turers the ability to create improved gears that can achieve signifi cant savings and performance advantages over those pro- duced from more traditional steel grades, the company reported. Additional bene- fi ts may include reduced downtime and lower warranty costs. timkensteel.com Handheld Analyzer Updated for Mining ThermoFisher Scientifi c updated the Ni- ton XL5 analyzer with mining mode. It allows geologists and mining companies in early and late-stage exploration, as well as in mining operations, to accu- rately determine, measure and evaluate the elemental composition of geological samples from magnesium to uranium, within seconds, the company reported. The resulting data enables mining com- panies to locate on-site, and in real time, the most viable resources. Weighing only 2.8 lb with a compact, ergonomic design, the analyzer is designed to reduce op- erator fatigue. In addition to embedded GPS, the update includes Bluetooth GPS functionality. The functionality will en- able users to record coordinates with high precision by leveraging external Bluetooth GPS devices, the company reported. Ad- ditionally, the update is designed to al- low users to adjust the analyzer based on results of reference samples, and to enter their own calfactors to increase the accuracy of analysis. New accessories also include the Thermo Scientifi c mini test stand, which is lightweight, collaps- ible and designed to improve portability, and the Thermo Scientifi c soil guard and backscatter shield. www.thermofi sher.com/XL5 High-performance Fluid Grease for Long-term Lubrication Klüber Lubrication offers Klübersynth BEM 44-4600, a semi-fl uid grease based on high-viscosity synthetic hydrocarbon oil and a special lithium soap. The grease is designed to work in central lubrication systems operating in low temperatures. This grease can also be used in place of gear oils in leaking gearboxes. Due to its thixotropic behavior, it is able to slow leaking while continuing to protect the gears and bearings, according to the company, which also claims that Klüber- synth BEM 44-4600 offers a long service life, functional reliability and signifi cant cost reduction. State-of-the-art additives ensure optimum resistance to oxidation, wear and corrosion. The grease is also very resistant to high temperatures. www.kluber.com Compression Load Cells for Harsh Environments Flintec's RC3 compression load cell has been redeveloped, providing customers with a modern alternative. The RC3 and RC3D are compact, robust, compression load cells manufactured from high-grade stainless steel and hermetically sealed for reliable performance in the harshest en- vironments. With capacities ranging from 7.5 tons to 300 tons, the RC3 is tradi- tionally used in high-capacity scales for the static weighing of trucks or railroad vehicles, as well as silo weighing systems. The RC3D supplements the RC3, by pro- viding a more cost-effective solution to customer applications within the 30-ton to 50-ton capacity range. New electronics allow the RC3D to be fi tted as part of a single link (daisy chain) system, eliminat- ing the need for expensive junction boxes. This new generation load cell is quick and easy to set up and benefi ts from extensive diagnostic capabilities to identify faults, according to the manufacturer. With im- proved corner adjustment and system calibration, the RC3D allows for a sin- gle-load cell to be replaced without com- promising the entire weighing system. Other features include an IP69K hermet- ic seal rating and integrated surge protec- tion in accordance with EN61000-4-5. Complementing the new RC3D, and the already established RC3, is a wide range of mounting hardware and electronics, allowing customers to create a complete weighing system for any application. www.fl intec.com Hose, Cable Reel Manufacturer Gets New Website Hannay Reels, manufacturer of dura- ble hose and cable reels for both OEM and aftermarket applications, redesigned their website. The new website features a mobile responsive design with improved navigation, ensuring customers are seam- lessly provided product results when searching by either industry or applica- tion, the company reported. Additionally, the website offers access to various user services: Reels 101, a guide to educate customers on the pur- pose of a hose or cable reel, types of reels and how to fi nd the right reel for any unique specifi cations; Reel Selector, an interactive tool designed to fi lter through thousands of hose or cable reels with advanced options to fi nd the right series and model to fi t any need; and Custom Shop, which introduces the customer to the Hannay Reels process and the custom reel solution. www.hannay.com
