48 E&MJ; • FEBRUARY 2018 www.e-mj.com SUPPLIERS REPORT Atlas Copco announced it would acquire the assets of Hy-Performance Fluid Pow- er Pty Ltd, an Australian service provider for the mining sector, based in Brisbane, with sales mainly in Australia. The com- pany's 26 employees remanufacture, ser- vice and repair hydraulic components for drill rigs. "The Hy-Performance team will play an important role as we continue to strengthen our value offering to mining and infrastructure customers," said Hele- na Hedblom, president of the Mining and Rock Excavation Technique business area. The acquisition is expected to be complet- ed in the first quarter of 2018. Separately, Atlas Copco said it com- pleted the acquisition of Rockdrill Ser- vices Australia Pty. Ltd. Based in Mel- bourne, Rockdrill Services has service shops in Kalgoorlie and Townsville. It's 37 employees develop, remanufacture, service and repair rock drills. Also, one of Atlas Copco's partners, Ca- votec, announced the release of its Human Operator Interface system for loaders. The system comprises three cameras, a media base unit, and an antenna on the loader machine; and a Radio Remote Control unit and tablet device for operators. The sys- tem is designed to provide operators with a wider overall view of their operating area, which improves efficiency and safety, Ca- votec reported. The system was first field tested in 2016 at a mine in Russia. Jacobs Wins 2 Projects Jacobs Engineering reported that Anglo American has asked it to provide engi- neering services to the company's Los Bronces copper mine, located approx- imately 40 miles northeast of Santiago, Chile. Situated at an altitude of more than 11,000 feet, Los Bronces is one of the world's largest copper mines, produc- ing more than 308,000 metric tons (mt) in 2017. "Jacobs has extensive experience ex- ecuting end-to-end solutions for copper projects," said Jacobs Mining, Minerals and Technology Senior Vice President and General Manager Andrew Berryman. "This experience, combined with our long-standing relationship with Anglo American and our previous work on the Los Bronces mine project, positions us well to add value." Under the terms of the three-year master services agreement, Jacobs will provide engineering services and field technical assistance to support the mine's sustaining capital program, as well as lead the evaluation and development of environmental permits. In addition, Jacobs will support the preparation of bidding rules for future scopes of work, including studies, engineering services and construction phases. Separately, BHP tapped Jacobs En- gineering Group for an engineering ser- vices contract at a new nickel sulphate facility located at the company's Kwinana Nickel Refinery in Western Australia. The new facility is being designed to produce 100,000 metric tons per year (mt/y) of nickel sulphate hexahydrate, with the option to increase processing capacity to 200,000 mt/y. At full capacity, the plant will process 44,000 mt of nickel powder and be the world's largest nickel sulphate facility. The nickel sulphate produced at the facility will be used in batteries. "Jacobs 50-year relationship with BHP coupled with our 40-year history developing nickel and cobalt mining proj- ects ideally positions us to support the company's new nickel sulphate facility," Berryman said. "Our unique capabilities in this sector will help ensure BHP's nick- el sulphate facility is a success in sup- porting the battery market." In addition to supporting the devel- opment of the new nickel sulphate facil- ity, Jacobs is delivering engineering and consulting services to BHP across its portfolio of assets, including the South Flank iron ore mine development project in Western Australia, which is subject to board approval.
