FEBRUARY 2018 • E&MJ; 49 www.e-mj.com SUPPLIERS REPORT The Lithium Industry and Chile's Role Author: Gustavo Lagos Cruz-Coke Professor Gustavo Lagos has been a direct witness as well as a permanent and meticulous chronicler of this enthralling history that today is at an inflection point. Lagos is –almost certainly– the Chilean professional who has most studied and written about the lithium resources of our country, their characteristics, opportunities and restrictions. Caterpillar and FTP Solutions started offering their joint services in Australia in 2017 and are expanding to all mining regions in 2018. FTP Solutions, based in Perth, West- ern Australia, currently offers products and services for monitoring and support- ing site communications. Mechanized Solutions for SA Gold, PGM Ops CMTI Group's mechanized underground mining equipment is available for com- mercial contracting to South African gold and platinum group metal operations. The technology includes ultra-low profile (ULP) mining and integrated brake-test- ing equipment, as well as rail-bound transport solutions, such as a unique hy- brid diesel-electric locomotive. The group's mechanized solutions are designed for operating in harsh working environments, characterized by abrasive rock and steep gradients, the group re- ported. For example, CMTI Consulting's 10-mt hybrid-diesel locomotive spent 18 months operating in local deep-level gold mines. Separately, the company's ULP mining machines have exceeded expec- tations at several South African gold and platinum mines, the group reported. In one such case, Burnstone gold mine in Balfour, Mpumalanga, used the group's MT100 and MT 1000 ULP equipment. As part of the ramp-up, the group em- barked on a fundraising round that will close during the first quarter of 2018. CMTI Group is manufacturing the equip- ment at its factory in Tshwane, Gauteng. The group is Sibanye Stillwater's technol- ogy partner. Liebherr Signs PRI for Autonomous Development Liebherr tapped Perrone Robotics (PRI) for support on development of autono- mous solutions for their trucks. PRI will integrate its MAX platform into Liebherr's autonomy kit. MAX will support certain functionality within the kit. This func- tionality will assist in performing the re- quired maneuvers precisely and reliably for efficient and safe operations, PRI reported. "The open and agnostic con- cepts within MAX align with Liebherr's approach to autonomy," said James Whitfield, general manager, research and development, Liebherr. Haul Trucks Converted to Run on LNG GFS Corp. will install its EVO-MT 9300 System on Komatsu 930E haul trucks, enabling them to run on liquid natural gas, at a mine in Mexico. The fully in- tegrated system includes onboard LNG storage and vaporization as well as engine controls and safety systems. The version of the system to be used in the Mexico project will include both a hydraulic/LNG combo tank and the optional diesel/LNG combo tank, providing a total of 600 us- able gallons of LNG storage capacity. GFS Corp. can retrofit natural gas plus diesel systems for the following mining vehicles: Caterpillar 777B, C and D, 785B, C and D, 793B, C and D trucks; Cat 992G and K wheel loaders; Komatsu 830DC, AC and 930E trucks; Terex Unit Rig 4400 trucks.
