SUPPLIERS REPORT The Polish facility's new equipment includes a GMC 160 Klingelnberg bevel cutter, V3520 Depot Expert bevel cutter and T200/250 gear tester, expanding the plant's capability to produce vertical roller mill gearing or bevel gearing sets for gyra- tory and cone crushers. This follows FLSmidth's September 2011 acquisition of the Italian company Darimec S.r.L., a manufacturer of girth gears, pinions and custom-made reducers. Milan, Italy-based Darimec's product range encompasses kiln girth gears up to 10 m in diameter, mill girth gears up to 11.2 m, pinions, special reducers up to 10,000 kW, kiln rollers and tires, and overhaul, rebuild- ing and reengineering of existing gears. The company is now known as FLSmidth MAAG Gear S.p.A. Dana Starts Up Mining-Axle Production Lines in China Dana Holding Corp. has begun producing five medium- and large-sized Spicer mining axle models at the company's facility in Wuxi, Jiangsu Provence, China. Designed with dynamic load capacities ranging from 20 to 60 tons (18 to 54 mt), the Spicer Model 14D, Model 16D, Model 19D, and two versions of the Model 53R axle are used for a variety of mining vehicles, including LHDs, mining trucks, and scoops. The company said the addition of pro- duction capacity in Wuxi is part of a global effort to increase output to meet growing demand for mining equipment. Over the past 30 months, Dana has significantly increased its production of mining axles, transmissions, and driveshafts at its four mining-focused manufacturing facilities in Arco, Italy; Brugge, Belgium; Lugoff, South Carolina, USA; and Wuxi, China. "China is the world's leading producer of coal, iron ore, metals and rare earths, and mine operators are increasingly reliant on larger and more complex machinery to keep up with demand," said Aziz Aghili, president of Dana Off-Highway Driveline Technologies. "Dana is positioned today to supply mining equipment manufacturers in China with field-proven drivetrain solu- tions, as well as manufacturing and after- market service capabilities in the region." The deployment of added manufactur- ing capacity is the latest in a series of ini- tiatives to better support its OEM cus- tomers, according to Dana. This summer, Dana announced the opening of a new aftermarket distribution center in Wuxi to increase product availability, improve deliv- Dana Corp. is now producing medium- and heavy- capacity mining axles, shown here in an LHD applica- tion, at its Wuxi, China, plant. ery times, and provide additional support to its aftermarket customers. In February, Dana announced the start of production on the Spicer TZL Series transmission, a new line of powershift transmissions for front-end loaders and motor graders manufactured in China. Next year, Dana plans to open a 12,000- m2 (130,000-ft2) technical center in Wuxi to provide advanced product and applica- tions engineering through research, design, development, and testing of driveline, seal- ing, and thermal-management products, including electric-vehicle battery coolers. 126 E&MJ; • NOVEMBER 2012 www.e-mj.com
