NEWS - PEOPLE IN THE NEWS 12 E&MJ • FEBRUARY 2019 www.e-mj.com Newmont Mining Corp. announced that Rob Atkinson will succeed Tom Palmer as executive vice president and COO, effective June 1. Palmer, currently president and COO, will remain president until he succeeds Gary Goldberg to become president and CEO. Last month, Newmont an- nounced that Goldberg will retire in the fourth quarter as part of a planned, orderly and long-term leadership succession. Most recently, Atkinson served as head of productivity and tech- nical support for Rio Tinto. South32 Ltd. announced changes to the group's leadership team. Katie Tovich will succeed Brendan Harris as CFO, effective May 1. Tovich will immediately assume the role of deputy CFO. Harris will take over from Peter Finnimore as chief marketing offi cer. CMOC appointed Hubert Lehman as managing director, CMOC-Northparkes Mines. Hubert has taken over from Jim Fowler who led Northparkes for 16 months, departing in August 2018. Fowler has been appointed as the CEO for the CMOC Operation in Tenke Fungurume, located in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Katanga Mining Ltd. appointed Danny Callow as CEO and director and Paul Smith has been appointed as CFO of Katanga. Callow is currently head of Africa Copper Operations of Glencore International. Smith joined Glencore plc in July 2011 and is currently the head of strategy of Glencore Plc. Grant Sboros, current CFO, will continue in his role as site chief fi nancial offi cer of Katanga's 75% owned operating subsid- iary, Kamoto Copper Co. SA (KCC). Samuel Rasmussen, the current COO, will assume the role of managing director of operations at KCC. The current CEO Johnny Blizzard has resigned. Concurrent with its acquition by Zijin Mining Group, Nevsun Resources made the following appointments as directors to the board: Qixue Fang, Xian Jian Guo, Qiang Liu, Harry Zheng Tian and Kaihui Yang, and the following as executive offi cers: Xian Jian Guo as CEO and Xuelin Cai as CFO. The follow- ing former Nevsun directors have resigned: Ian Pearce, Ian Ashby, Geoff Chater, Anne Giardini, Peter Kukielski, Stephen Scott and David Smith. The following former Nevsun executive offi cers have also resigned: Peter Kukielski, CEO; Ryan MacWilliam, CFO; Joseph Giuffre, chief legal offi cer; Scott Trebilcock, chief development offi cer; and Marc Blythe, vice presi- dent, corporate development. SilverCrest Metals Inc. promoted Stephany (Rosy) Fier to the posi- tion of vice president, exploration and technical services and Nicholas Campbell as executive vice presi- dent, business development for the company. Fier has been the explora- tion manager for the company since its inception in 2015. Campbell has been the vice president, business development for the company since October 2016. Michael Rapsch has re- signed from his position as vice president, corporate communication. Guyana Goldfi elds Inc. appointed Suresh Kalathil as se- nior vice president and COO, effective March 1. Kalathil is joining Guyana Goldfi elds from IAMGOLD Corp., where he served as general manager of Rosebel gold mine. Monarch Gold Corp. appointed Mathieu Séguin as vice presi- dent, corporate development. Séguin has been an investment banker since 2002. Prior to joining Monarch, Mathieu was director, investment banking, at Laurentian Bank Securities. Newrange Gold Corp. appointed Robert Archer as CEO. He served as president and CEO of Great Panther until August 2017 and remains on the board of di- rectors. He has been a shareholder of Newrange for many years and joined the Board of Directors in March 2018. Rockridge Resources Ltd. announced that Ron Netolitzky has joined as the fi rst member of a Technical Advisory Board. He was previously chairman and president of Viceroy Exploration Ltd. Lars Engström, president of Sandvik Mining and Rock Tech- nology, will leave Sandvik during 2019 after the appointment of a successor. Since 2016, Engström has been a member of Sandvik Group's Executive Management and headed up the Business Area Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology. DRA Global appointed Brent Hilscher as the director of origination and process in western Canada. Hilscher joined DRA from Sacré-Davey Engineering. SNC-Lavalin appointed Ian Edwards COO. He joined SNC-Lavalin in 2014 after six years in senior roles with the Leighton Group. The Coalition for Energy Effi cient Comminution (CEEC) welcomed three new directors to the board: Marc Allen is a Singapore-based energy and emissions expert with a background in minerals processing. Chris Rule is a South Africa-based specialist with extensive minerals processing and operational ex- perience. Nick Wilshaw is a U.K.-based expert on grinding. Two new advocates include John Visser, a Perth-based processing expert, and Romke Kuyvenhoven, a Santiago-based metallurgist with expertise in energy effi cient process design. Eriez-USA promoted Dave Heubel to the newly created position of senior sales director. Most recently, Heubel was director of North American sales. Dan Zimmerman has been promoted to the position of operations director of Eriez- USA. Zimmerman has been with Eriez since 2004, serving most recently as director of business development. The Mining Association of British Columbia (MABC) announced that Bryan Cox, president and CEO, will be leaving MABC in mid-February to pursue another role in the natural resource sector in British Columbia. John G. Roscoe of Lookout Mountain, Colorado, passed away September 1, 2018. Roscoe was a mining engineer, born March 16, 1922, in White Sulphur Springs, Montana. Following high school, he began prospecting with his father in the Nevada City area of California. After serving in the Army during World War II, he used the G.I. Bill to graduate as a mining engineer from Mackay School of Mines, University of Nevada. He started his mining engineering career at the legendary Bunker Hill mine in Kellogg, Idaho. He eventually headquartered in Grand Junction, followed by Tucson, Arizona, before moving back to Colorado in the 1970s. He was a life member of the American Institute of Mining Engi- neers. He became a founding member of the Lookout Mountain Water District, serving as president of the board of directors. He was instrumental in providing engineering and management services for the development of the Upper Bea- ver Brook reservoir and water treatment facilities. Renamed the John Roscoe Reservoir and Dam, the development was dedicated in his honor July 2017.
