"Red" Conger IV has been elected to the Na- tional Academy of Engineering for his contributions to copper mine and plant design and for his leadership in helping Freeport-McMoRan Inc. become the world's top private copper producer. He will be inducted at a cere- mony on October 6. Conger is president and COO in the Americas for Freeport, in Phoenix. Ivanhoe Mines appointed Tony S. Giardini as its new president. Lars-Eric Johansson, who has served as Ivanhoe's president and CEO since May 2007, will retire at the end of June. Most recently, Giardini was executive vice president and CFO of Kinross Gold, a position he held since December 2012. Vale appointed Marcello Spinelli as executive director of ferrous and coal. Spinelli has served as CEO at VLI Logística since 2010. Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. ap- pointed Jo-Anne Dudley as COO. For the past nine years, she has been a key member of the Oyu Tolgoi tech- nical team. Most recently, she led Oyu Tolgoi's 30-person Strategic Mine and Resources Planning unit. Barkerville Gold Mines Ltd. welcomed Sean Masse to its executive team as the vice president of operations. He was formerly mine manager at New Gold's New Af- ton Mine and more recently project manager at Centerra Gold's Kemess Project. Vézina, COO, will be stepping down at the end of June. Vézina will continue leading economic and technical studies for the Cariboo Gold Project. McEwen Mining Inc. announced two new management appointments. Meri Verli will be joining as the new CFO, replacing Andrew Elinesky who is de- parting the company; and Jack Henris will be joining as general manager for Nevada. Most recently, Verli was CFO of PPX Mining Corp. since October 2017. New Gold Inc. appointed Nicholas Chirekos to its board of directors. Chirekos has more than 25 years of experi- ence in investment banking and capital markets, with a focus on the mining industry. He served in various invest- ment banking roles at J.P. Morgan Securities Inc. from 1987 until his retirement in 2016. Chirekos currently serves on the boards of directors of Peabody Energy Corp. and the Reiman School of Finance Advisory Board at the University of Denver's Daniels College of Business and previously served on the board of directors of The Mineral Information Institute. Champion Iron Ltd. appointed David Cataford to the board of directors. Cataford was appointed CEO on April 1, having joined the company in 2014 as vice president, engineering, and then serving as COO from 2017 to 2019. Lydian International Ltd. appointed Victor Flores as a new director immediately following the upcoming annual general meeting on June 12. From November 2009 to March 2018, he was a partner at Paul- son & Co. and co-portfolio manager of the PFR Gold Fund. Excellon Resources Inc. announced the resignation of Rupy Dhadwar from his position of CFO. Ronald Mariño, vice president of fi nance, will serve as interim CFO in the near-term. Oroco Resource Corp. appointed Ian Graham as vice president of exploration. He worked with major mining companies, Rio Tinto and Anglo American, in- cluding as chief geologist with the project generation group at Rio Tinto. The Minerals Council of Australia announced former Cab- inet minister, lawyer and experienced board director the Hon. Helen Coonan as its new chair. Coonan will begin as chair when current Chair Dr. Vanessa Guthrie steps down following the MCA's board meeting on June 18. Her appointment is for a two-year period. Dr. Guthrie has been MCA chair for the last three years after joining the board in 2014. Mining contractor BGC Australia has appointed Daniel Cooper as its new CEO, with Alan Tate moving back into the CFO role. Cooper most recently served as the UK CEO of Hanson, which is a part of the Heidelberg Cement Group. Outokumpu appointed Olli-Matti Saksi as president of business area Americas. He has been based in the U.S. since January, fi rst leading the Americas' sales and supply chain operations and since May 1 the whole orga- nization as the interim head of the business area. Liebherr USA Co. Mining Division an- nounced that Zack Sims and Mark Williams are now regional sales managers. Sims will serve as the re- gional sales manager for 13 states in Liebherr's east central region, while Williams will cover 16 states in the company's east coast region. Columbia Steel announced that Greg Stegmaier, who joined the company in 1993, has retired after serving as director of product engineering. Prior to this position, he managed the Scrap Shredder Product Engineering Group. LiuGong Machinery announced Kris Kulkarni has joined LiuGong North America as vice president, global mining. Kulkarni began his professional career at Cater- pillar in 1996 in structures and steadily progressed in en- gineering roles across diverse mining products, including large wheel loaders, mining trucks, surface drills, and hydraulic shovels. Motion Industries Inc. named John Watwood group se- nior vice president of the Southeast group. Previously, he was division vice president, general manager, of the Nashville division. Normet appointed Ed Santamaria president and CEO of Normet Group. He takes over from Interim President and CEO Aaro Cantell and he will start in his new role at the latest in November. He is currently president, parts and services division at Sandvik Min- ing & Rock Technology. Telsmith Inc. hired Marty Waldorf as regional sales man- ager covering Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Upper Michigan.
