CONVEYORS JUNE 2019 • E&MJ 89 pacts are also very low as minimal noise and dust occurs during operation. Blending Coal in South Africa South32 recently awarded SCHADE Lagertechnik GmbH an engineering order for a harrow modification, which became necessary after coal specifications were altered at the Doug- las-Middelburg Optimization (DMO) coal mine in South Africa. DMO operates a coal mine in the province of Middelburg, around 160 km east of Johannesburg, to supply a neighboring power plant. To overcome the difficulties in blending to meet specifications, the bridge reclaimer in the stockpile will be equipped with SCHADE's Active Harrow to ensure homogeni- zation. In addition, the capacity of the bridge reclaimer will be greatly expanded by 1,800 metric tons per hour (mt/h) to 2,400 t/h. The order, which SCHADE said will be completed next year, encompasses the design and engineering of the Active Harrow, a new reclaimer chain system including drive units, and an upgrade to the electrical components. An Active Harrow (above) will be used to better blend the coal from South32's DMO mine in South Africa.
