96 E&MJ • JUNE 2019 www.e-mj.com SUPPLIERS REPORT K+S Group subsidiary K+S Potash Can- ada contracted BHS-Sonthofen for two mixers for dedusting and coloring salt at the Bethune mine in Saskatchewan, Canada. The supplier deployed Combimix DKCX 7300 units, which offered the re- quired throughput at 550 tons per hour, short mixing time, minimal maintenance costs, and the capability for rendering a homogenous product. BHS-Sonthofen had previously contracted for similar work for K+S Group in Germany. At Bethune, potash crude salt is pro- cessed into two potassium chloride prod- ucts for use in fertilizers. The products run through a dedusting and coloring pro- cess using inked oil before being loaded into railcars. BHS-Sonthofen used lab tri- als using salt from the site to determine the best mixing process and technol- ogy. The supplier reported that the sin- gle-shaft continuous mixer, as was initial- ly requested by the miner, was a partially satisfactory choice, but did fulfill all the requirements. After 10 seconds of mixing time, the colored oil was not distributed well enough over the entire batch in the test machine, the supplier reported. The Combimix DKCX 7300, a twin- shaft batch mixer, featured a bottom- flow discharge capability that allowed "precise control over output volume," BHS-Sonthofen reported. "With this ful- ly adjustable regulation-system homo- geneity and therefore high quality can be sustained with every throughput, in the required retention time and with minimal maintenance." Ma'aden Hires Outotec for Plant, More The Saudi Arabian Mining Co. (Ma'aden) awarded Outotec and Larsen & Toubro a contract for a mineral concentrator and processing plant for the Mansourah & Massarah mines in the Central Arabian gold region. Outotec's delivery includes basic and detail engineering, procurement and delivery of process equipment, commis- sioning, startup assistance and training services. The plant, which will process up to 4 million metric tons (mt) of ore to produce 250,000 ounces per year (oz/y), is calendared for completion in 2022. Outotec's share of the project is more than $156 million, and will be booked into its Q2 2019 order intake. The to- tal value of the project is approximately $601 million. Separately, Outotec landed a $16.7 million contract to design and deliver a mine paste backfill system to OZ Min- erals' Prominent Hill mine. Outotec will supply the complete backfill system and design the underground distribution net- work and fill management systems. The new paste backfill plant will be based on a unique process design, which allows flexibility to use continuously pro- duced fresh tailings or stored filter cake to meet the future backfill needs, the company reported. The new facility is ex- pected to have a capacity of 215 cubic meters (m 3 ) per hour. Collahuasi Receive Pleuger Pumps Pleuger reported it delivered six custom process water pumps to the Collahuasi mine. The submersible 10-in. pumps are Potash Op Buys 2 65-kW Mixers Above, two BHS-Combimix mixers, each with 65-kW drive power, process potash crude salt at the K+S Potash Canada Bethune mine.
