The new Simocode Pro motor management system includes a Simocode Pro V Profinet basic unit with two RJ45 interfaces, allowing the system to connect to higherlevel controllers such as Simatic S7 or to control systems such as Simatic PCS 7. Profinet can be used to provide media redundancy functions that ensure a connection is maintained within a network with ring topology, even if one communication channel fails. This helps to increase availability, with the benefit of better productivity for an entire plant. With Profinet compatibility, the new basic unit also offers more far-reaching diagnostic and control functions, in addition to simple communication between higher-level plant control and drive systems, according to the company. www.industry.usa.siemens.com/automation Trash Pumps are Self-priming Thompson Pump TSC pumps are multi-purpose, automatic priming trash pump units that provide flows up to 1,460 gpm (5,500 l/min) and heads up to 150 ft. Available in 4- and 5-in. (102-162 mm) models, they handle solids up to 3 in. The TSC pump end is self- priming—capable of re-priming although the add-on automatic priming system rarely fails. The pump case offers a large cleanout to remove debris from the impeller or repair common wear items without having to disconnect the suction hose or pipe. www.thompsonpump.com Fuel Warmer Enhances Cold-weather Engine Operation Arctic Fox has released its Hot Fox in-tank/in-line fuel warmer with auxiliary standpipe, designed to provide heated fuel for both main engine and fuel-fired coolant pre-heaters, cab warmers or other fuel-dependent products. Fuel warmers, according to the company, provide protection against fuel gelling problems associated with cold weather operation, and enable users to reduce the use of blended fuel and winter fuel additives. Product features include availability with a 2-mm or 4-mm I.D. auxiliary fuel tube to accommodate most diesel-fired coolant preheaters; stainless steel construction for durability and compatibility with all fuels and additives; low profile (51-mm) mounts on vehicles with reduced clearance between fuel tank and cab; and easy installation in the fuel tank through a standard fuel gauge sending-unit opening. www.arctic-fox.com Compact Spectrometer for Field Use Spectral Evolution says its SM-3500 full range spectrometer is designed to enhance collection and analysis of in-the-field mineral data, from early exploration/mineral identification to analysis for extraction and production. With a full spectral range (UV/VIS/NIR) from 350-2,500 nm, users can identify mineral groups such as Al(OH), sulphates, Si(OH), Fe(OH), Mg(OH), carbonate minerals, silicates, zeolites, rare earths and massive sulphides. Unit capabilities include full range UV/VIS/NIR in one scan; very fast scanning, with autoshutter, autoexposure and auto-dark correction; compact design that weighs less than 8 lb (3.6 kg) and has no moving parts; and DARWin SP data acquisition software that produces ASCII-compatible files without post-processing for use with third-party software including SpecMIN, TSG, IOGAS and GRAMS.
