NEWS - PEOPLE IN THE NEWS Teck Resourceshas appointed Ian Kilgour executive vice president and COO. Since February 2011, he has served as Teck's senior vice president, coal. The company has appointed Dale Andres senior vice president, copper. Andres joined Ian Kilgour Dale Andres Teck in 1995 and most recently held the position of vice president, copper strategy and North American operations. He succeeds Roger Higgins, who is retiring. Guyana Goldfields Inc. has appointed Scott Caldwell president and CEO. Former CEO Patrick Sheridan Jr. will become executive chairman of the board of directors. Cliffs Natural Resources announced that Francis McAllister, lead director, has elected to retire from the company's board of directors effective immediately. He has served on Cliffs' board since 1996. The board of directors has elected James F. Kirsch, former chairman, president and CEO of Ferro Corp., to be its lead director coinciding with its July 2013 board meeting. Kirsch was elected to the Cliffs board of directors in 2010 and currently serves on two board committees, Compensation and Organization, and Governance and Nominating. Dominion Diamond Corp. has appointed Chantal Lavoie president and COO of Dominion Diamond Ekati Corp. Sandfire Resources NL has appointed Mike Spreadborough COO. Chantal Lavoie Northland Resources S.A. announced the resignation of CEO Karl-Axel Waplan. Peter Pernlšf will serve as acting CEO pending the board's appointment of a new managing director. Pernlöf is currently Northland's COO. AuRico Gold Inc. announced that Colin Benner has tendered his resignation for health reasons. He has been on a leave of absence since April. ArcelorMittal has appointed Bill Scotting chief executive of ArcelorMittal Mining. Peter Kukielski, who has been chief executive since December 2008, is leaving the company. Bill Scotting Peter Kukielski Alternative Earth Resources Inc. has appointed Ed Low CFO. He replaces Margot Delport who is the leaving the company. Uranium Resources Inc. has appointed Jeffrey L. Vigil vice president and CFO. Fairmount Minerals has appointed Jennifer Deckard president and CEO. She is replacing Chuck Fowler who is retiring. Fowler will continue as a director and as chairman of the Executive Committee of the Fairmount Board. Bear Creek Mining announced that Dr. Alvaro Diaz has been appointed vice president of legal and general counsel; Andres Franco has been appointed vice president of corporate development; and Christian Rios has been appointed vice president of exploration. Jennifer Deckard The Sulphur Institute recently announced that Catherine A. Randazzo, president and CEO, is leaving the organization to pursue other interests. Randazzo has served as president and CEO since 2008. The Sulphur Institute has appointed an interim staff leadership team, consisting of Don Messick, vice president, communications, marketing and agriculture, and Harold Weber, vice president, industrial programs, to manage the association's activities in conjunction with the member management team. The Mining Association of Canada (MAC) announced that Zo' Yujnovich, president and CEO of Canada's largest iron ore producer, the Iron Ore Company of Canada, has been elected chair of MAC for a two-year term. She is the association's first female chair in its 78-year history. She replaces Ian Pearce, former CEO of Xstrata Nickel, who served as chair from June 2012 until his resignation from Xstrata Nickel in May 2013. Zo' Yujnovich Yujnovich has been an active member of the MAC board of directors and Executive Committee since 2010 as first vice chair. John T. Boyd Company has appointed Carlos Barrera, managing director– South America. Mercator Minerals Ltd. has appointed Gary Simmerman a consultant to the company. He will no longer be an officer. Ensurge Inc. has appointed Jamie Miller president and CEO. He replaces Jeff Hanks, who has been serving as acting president/CEO. Hanks will continue to serve as CFO and sole director of Ensurge. The company also announced that Kurt Nunes has been appointed executive vice president of its subsidiary TransGlobal Gold Corp. The company's Brazilian subsidiary, Ensurge Brasil LTDA, has accepted the resignation of Jordan Estra as director and president/CEO. Passport Potash Inc. has appointed Michael X. Schlumpberger COO. Americas Bullion Royalty Corp. announced that William M. Sheriff has resumed his position as chairman and CEO and Paul H. Zink has been appointed chief investment officer. Cap-Ex Iron Ore Ltd. recently announced changes to its senior officers: Graham Harris has been appointed CEO; Brett Matich has been re-appointed president; and Fran•ois Laurin has resigned as president and CEO but will remain a director of the company. Michael Schlumpberger Alderon Iron Ore Corp. has appointed Fran•ois Laurin CFO. North American Nickel Inc. has appointed James E. Sparling project manager and Johan D. Krebs drill geologist for the company's 2013 summer exploration program on its 100% owned Maniitsoq property. Altan Rio Minerals Ltd. has appointed Anthony Jackson CFO. 12 E&MJ; • JULY 2013 Pangolin Diamonds Corp. has appointed geologist Manfred R. Marx as a consultant to the company's on-site exploration team. Fernando Alanis Fernando Alanis, CEO of Industrias Peñoles, S.A.B. de C.V., the world's largest producer of refined silver, based in Mexico, has been elected president of the Silver Institute by its members. He succeeds Geoff Burns, president and CEO of Pan American Silver Corp., whose term as the Silver Institute's president ended May 31. Mitchell Krebs, president, CEO and a director of Coeur Mining, has been elected vice president of the Institute, succeeding Alanis in this role. Babcock International has appointed Robert Whetstone head of operations for mining and construction in North America. Volvo Penta has appointed Dee Wise industrial regional sales manager, North America and Billy Pacey distribution development account manager. CDE Mining has appointed Stephen McCartney business development manager. Austmine Chairman Alan Broome was recently awarded the Austmine Life Membership Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) sector and for his longstanding leadership of Austmine as chair for the last 22 years. Broome is a metallurgist with more than 40 years of experience in the metals, mining and energy industries. He is a director and chair of a numAlan Broome ber of Australian mining technology companies. He also sits on the Minerals Sector Advisory Council of the CSIRO and is a director of the New Zealand Coal Association.
