That has meant getting our hands dirty and developing tyre management solutions when they did not exist. This year, Kal Tire's Mining Tire Group sets out to showcase its latest innovations in tyre services at two exhibitions—Electra Mining Africa and MINExpo. The company looks forward to introducing the mining industry to Ultra Repair™—Kal Tire's exclusive and award-winning product and process for repairing ultra-class tyres suffering from large injuries. After successfully developing a unique tyre patch for ultra-class tyres, Ultra Repair™ was launched in Canada in 2014. The Ultra Repair™ process involves identifying tyres with large injuries and replacing damaged or broken steel belts in ultra-class tyres to restore the tyre's original strength, integrity and perfor- mance at a fraction of the cost of new tyres. After its early success and results in Canada, saving customers thousands of dollars and dozens of tyres from scrap piles, Kal Tire brought Ultra Repair™ to mine sites in the UK, West Africa, Chile, and coming this year to Australia. In the 1970's, Kal Tire introduced its earthmover retreading ser- vice to help extend the life of mining tyres. Over the years, Kal Tire has continued to evolve that process to incorporate new technology and ensure its retreaded tyres perform as well as premium brands of new tyres. Kal Tire now operates five world-class earthmover retread facilities located in Canada, UK, West Africa and Chile. Kal Tire also believes in offering a solution at every stage of the tyre life cycle, even when tyres are no longer fit for the road. In 2016, Kal Tire partnered with a leader in tyre recycling to give western Canadian mine operators their first opportunity to have scrap tyres disposed, shredded and converted into products such as sports field flooring. This new plant, located in northern Alberta, will have the capacity to recycle nearly 6,000 tyres per year. Kal Tire is now actively working with customers to bring recycling options to various markets. During their life, mining tyres face incredible pressures, and for an operation that relies on earthmover tyres, proactive tyre management is crucial. Since every site is unique, Kal Tire offers customised tyre management services that includes everything from operational audits, on-site support and tyre maintenance to inven- tory management, forecasting and site severity studies—all geared to drive performance and efficiency, and provide measurable value. Kal Tire takes pride in its pioneering approach to finding solu- tions that help maximise tyre life as well as help improve safety and productivity, and in being able to bring new technology and processes to mine sites around the world and at every extreme. You'll find Kal Tire's Mining Tire Group team members on nearly 150 mine sites across five continents and in some of the most remote areas—from 14,000-feet high shifts in the Andes to the scorching red earth of the Pilbara. Kal Tire operates on surface and underground mine sites and with every kind of commodity, from oil operations and coal mines to diamonds and all types of metal mines. The company harnesses this far-reaching experience over decades to deliver on its promises to help keep mining customers competitive. To do that, Kal Tire needs the best people and process- es in place. More than 1,600 team members are trained to a global standard to ensure quality and safety on every site. With highly qualified technicians, KPI's established with the customer and a suite of data collection, analysis and reporting, Kal Tire focuses on results and opportunities to safely minimize tyre life cycle costs. Of course, at the core of every solution and service is the safety of team members and mine workers. Kal Tire's Mining Tire Group has worked hard to build safe work practices and invest in the train - ing, tools and equipment needed for team members to work safely. Today, with a culture of safety and a commitment to achieving zero harm, team members are engaged in recognising and eliminating hazards, and keeping safety top of mind, even after they leave the pits or the shop. Kal Tire's comprehensive and safety-focused approach means supplying customers with a broad range of comprehensive tyre management services, the best tyre brands, and the global expertise and resources to be true partners for mine operators everywhere.
