NEWS - PEOPLE IN THE NEWS 8 E&MJ; • JANUARY 2017 www.e-mj.com Goldcorp announced that George Burns, executive vice president and COO, will be leaving Goldcorp to as- sume the role of president and CEO at Eldorado Gold. Paul Wright, president and CEO of Eldorado, is retiring. Todd White, currently senior vice president, technical services and business excel- lence for Goldcorp, will succeed Burns. Prior to joining the company in 2014, he was the senior vice president, South America, at Newmont Mining Corp. New Gold Inc. announced that Hannes Portmann has been named presi- dent. David Schummer, executive vice president and COO, is leaving New Gold, and Raymond Threlkeld, currently a member of the company's board of directors, will become inter- im COO. Portmann was originally with Western Goldfi elds from 2008 until its 2009 merger with New Gold. New Gold will commence a comprehensive search process to recruit a permanent COO. Resolution Copper named Andrew Lye project director, replacing Andrew Taplin. Lye has more than two decades of mining experience and has been with Rio Tinto and its subsidiaries for more than 20 years. In February, he assumed duties as general manager, studies, at Reso- lution Copper. Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. announced the following executive leadership promotions: P. Kelly Tompkins was named executive vice president and COO. Tompkins, currently executive vice president and CFO, will oversee the U.S. iron ore and Asia Pacifi c iron ore operations, as well as the commercial and business development functions. Timothy K. Flanagan was named executive vice president, CFO and treasur- er. Flanagan, currently vice president, corporate controller, treasurer and chief accounting offi cer, will assume executive responsibility for fi nance, accounting, tax, treasury and investor relations. UC RUSAL appointed Bob Katsiouleris to the newly creat- ed position of export sales director. Prior to joining RUSAL in 2015, he worked as senior vice president marketing, sourcing and sales, as well as a period as interim senior vice president of mining. Nyrstar NV announced that Bill Scotting, CEO, has de- cided to leave the company. Hilmar Rode will be the new CEO, effective immediately. Ur-Energy Inc. appointed Jeffrey T. Klenda as president and CEO. Klenda was previously named acting CEO of Ur-Energy and has been named president and CEO. Klen- da is a founding director of the company and has served as executive director and chairman since 2006. He will also continue as the chairman of the board of directors. SilverCrest Metals Inc. announced that Eric Fier, president, has re- turned from his partial leave of ab- sence and will resume his full-time duties as CEO. Dunham Craig served as the interim CEO in Fier's absence. Anne Yong, company controller, will succeed Barney Magnusson as CFO, who will step down from the CFO role to become executive vice president. Magnusson will also remain a director of SilverCrest. Sello Kekana and Dr. David Brough- ton, two key members of the Ivan- hoe Mines exploration team, have received the prestigious 2016 Colin Spence Award for excellence in global mineral exploration from the Associ- ation for Mineral Exploration British Columbia for their roles in the discov- ery and delineation of the high-grade, fl at-lying Flatreef underground deposit now being developed at Ivanhoe's Pla- treef platinum-group metals, nickel, copper and gold mining project on the Northern Limb of the Bushveld Complex in South Africa's Limpopo province. The Eighth Nordic Exploration Award in 2016 goes to Timo Lindborg for energetically and decisively contributing to create a junior mining community in Finland; taking the Pampalo gold deposit into operation; and building bridg- es between Finland and Sweden, in industry and educa- tion. He is CEO of Sotkamo Silver AB. Victor Tapia has been appointed president of Metso's Minerals Capital business area and a member of Metso's executive team, reporting to Matti Kähkönen, president and CEO. He will start in his new role at the latest on July 1, but is joining Metso in February to ensure a smooth transition. Tapia comes to Metso from Atlas Copco, where he has worked for several years in various global leadership positions, currently as president of the Surface and Exploration Drilling Division. João Colagrossi will continue heading Metso's Minerals Capital business area until the end of June, after which he will take on a new role focusing on topics separately agreed upon with the CEO. The Canadian Mining Hall of Fame has released the list of 2017 induct- ees, which includes: James Carter, who is a giant in the history of Cana- da's oil sands and an exemplary lead- er in their sustainable development. He transformed Fort McMurray, Alber- ta, into a powerful economic engine for the nation while building Syn- crude Canada into one of the world's largest and most successful energy producers. Robert "Rob" McEwen is one of Canada's most innovative, original and dynamic mining entre- preneurs. He is best known for trans- forming Goldcorp Inc. from a holding company into a global gold-mining powerhouse and revitalizing Ontario's Red Lake gold mine. Donald McLeod is a revered and iconic fi gure in Canada's mining industry and an inspi- rational role model for young mining entrepreneurs. He is best known for developing the Brandywine and Summit gold mines, and for making high-grade gold discover- ies at the Brucejack project. William "Steve" Vaughan helped elevate the stature of Canada's mining industry at home and abroad as a leading expert and advisor on natural resource law, project fi nance and mineral policy matters for more than 40 years. John Zigarlick Jr. was a visionary mine-maker and compa- ny-builder who left an enduring legacy in Canada's North through innova- tive infrastructure development and the formation of progressive Aboriginal business partnerships. Cardno announced that Glen Smith has joined the fi rm as a power and energy sector leader in the company's Concord, California, offi ce. He will manage and oversee power and energy sector programs in the company's western and southwestern markets.
