A total of 23,666 mt of ore were pro- cessed during March (760 mt/d). Higher grade ore was blended with lower grade stockpiles to ensure operating efficiency throughout the month and 1,758 oz of gold were produced during March. The company says underground pro- duction crews continue to build on their expertise and efficiency. Production rates and grade continue to increase as the underground team adjusts to more con- trolled stoping methods and additional production faces open up. Minsur Modifies EIS for San Rafael Mine in Peru The Peruvian Service of Environmen- tal Certification for Sustainable Invest- ments (Senace) has approved the mod- ification of the Environmental Impact Study (EIS) for the Re-approval of Tail- ings project at the San Rafael mine, which is owned by Minsur. The $344 million project will re-process tailings to extract tin concentrates using a new mineral processing facility. Located in southern Peru, the mine is the country's lone tin producer and the EIS modifica- tion considers the impact of the reuse of the tailings deposit. In related news, Minsur reported during late March that San Rafael sus- tained no damages and was operating normally despite the recent heavy rains and flooding which have impacted the northern and central regions of the coun- try. The company is working closely with the Peruvian Government, the National Society of Mining, Oil and Energy (SN- MPE) and subsidiaries of BRECA Group on a number of diverse initiatives to help those affected. Pan American to Acquire New Argentine Mining Project Patagonia Gold plc and Pan American Silver have entered an agreement to basically exchange mining assets in southern Argentina. Minera Triton Ar- gentina, a subsidiary of Pan American Silver, will acquire the Cap Oeste Sur Este (COSE) project in Santa Cruz prov- ince for $15 million. Patagonia Gold gets an exclusive option to buy Minera Aquiline Argentina, a subsidiary of Pan American, which owns the Calcatreu gold-silver project, for $15 million. Pa- tagonia Gold will have six months to ex- ecute the option. Minsur plans to reprocess tailings at the San Rafael mine in the mountains of southern Peru.
