The FLSmidth ROL Process technology, which won a 2016 R&D; 100
award, is considered by many as a revolutionary technology. It enables
the leaching of 97 to 99% of copper from mineral concentrates
containing as little as 5% copper in less than six hours - a faster and
much simpler process that signifi cantly improves the sustainability of
existing mines.
The ROL process targets diffi cult-to-process copper concentrates,
such as primary sulphides and concentrates containing high levels of
arsenic. ROL enables the industry to dissolve copper from low- to mid-
grade concentrates at 80°C. This makes it possible to leach directly
at the mine, safely extracting the copper and maximizing the use of
existing capacity during the transition from oxide ore to sulphide ore
