JULY 2017 • E&MJ; 77 www.e-mj.com SUPPLIERS REPORT of machine and production data. Sie- mens and TCS will also work to explore implementing the MindSphere core plat- form, including operation and support services, such as application and infra- structure management, and analytical and testing services. The resulting offerings and services will reportedly reduce downtime, main- tenance-related costs and energy con- sumption, while increasing the lifetime of their machinery. Kal Tire Acquires Major Dealer in South Africa Kal Tire's Mining Tire Group, a mining tire services supplier and a global inde- pendent tire dealer, recently acquired the South African operations of Tyre Corp., which employs more than 800 people. Based in British Columbia, Canada, Kal Tire, provides full-service custom- ized mining tire solutions across five continents. Tyre Corp. customers will now have access to other Kal Tire ser- vices, such as Kal Tire's Ultra Repair process for ultra-class tires and other tire service innovations. Improved Aerial Imagery From Drone Cameras Insitu announced the integration of a 50-megapixiel camera into its ScanEagle drone. The camera will enable high-ac- curacy photogrammetric (HAP) aerial imagery. Compared to current photogram- metric payloads, Insitu's HAP payload dramatically decreases the aerial survey flight and processing time, allowing pre- cise broad area survey, and the delivery of a georeferenced site digital surface model. Insitu's HAP payload achieves this quick turnaround by taking many high-resolution images and integrating them to make a broad-area view. The capability is offered as part of the company's suite of remote sensing prod- ucts and information delivery services for enterprise customers. Metso Partners With Rockwell for IoT Solutions Metso selected Rockwell Automation to deliver a global industrial Internet of Things (IoT) platform that connects, mon- itors, and performs analytics for Metso's equipment and services, resulting in im- proved efficiency and profitability for its mining customers. The digital solution will securely col- lect and store data from Metso's equip- ment around the globe, including new equipment as well as machines already in operation. The solution will provide predictive analytics, preventive mainte- nance, and facilitate remote asset mon- itoring by Metso and its customers. The industrial IoT solution is built on the Rockwell Automation Factory- Talk Cloud platform, powered by Mic- rosoft Azure. Metso began working with Rockwell Automation on a pilot program in 2015, remotely monitoring an Afri- can-based mining crusher from a location in Wisconsin. ABB, IBM Partner for AI Solution in Plants ABB reportedly partnered with IBM to bring together ABB's industry leading digital offering, ABB Ability and IBM Wat- son's Internet of Things (IoT) cognitive capabilities. The new suite of solutions developed by ABB and IBM will help companies address some of their biggest challeng- es, such as improving quality control, reducing downtime, and increasing speed and yield of industrial processes. The first two-joint industry solutions will bring real-time so-called cognitive in- sights to plants and smart grids. First, ABB Ability will automatically capture real-time production images. Then IBM Watson IoT for Manufacturing will ana- lyze those images for defects. As mate- rial flows through a process, the system will alert the user to critical faults, im- proving quality control. Artificial Intelligence system Watson first made world news in 2011 when the natural language processor defeated two former winners at Jeopardy. BMIC Contracts for Coal-grinding Plant Building Materials Industry Co. (BMIC) signed Gebr. Pfeiffer to deliver a com- plete coal grinding plant on a turnkey basis to its cement operation in Assuit, Egypt. Gebr. Pfeiffer is contracted to pro- cure, manufacture and deliver the mate- rial and equipment; engineer the plant; construct all supporting structures; install the electrical equipment; commission the plant; manage the project; and more. The core of the plant is the Pfeiffer MPS 2800 BK coal mill, designed to grind 50 tons of coal per hour (t/h) to a fineness of 12% R 0.090 millimeters (mm) as well as 25 t/h pet coke to a fine- A new suite of solutions developed by ABB and IBM will help companies address some of their biggest challenges, such as improving quality control, reducing downtime, and increasing speed and yield of industrial processes.
