OCTOBER 2017 • E&MJ; 73 www.e-mj.com PROCESSING SOLUTIONS With their new plant coming online this year, things are about to get even busier. An increase in production requires greater capacity all the way down the line. An increase in ore moving through the system heightens the need for a tight- ly integrated digital solution that encom- passes the entire operation. Integration throughout the facility gives operators complete access to in- strument data at each stage of produc- tion. Rather than using relays or analog outputs, Profi bus DP allows access to all process data including rate, speed, total and load — as well as any instrument alarming if a problem occurs. According to Siemens, the benefi ts from the combination of Siemens weighing technology and digital integration include: • Reliability: a belt scale with the most ap- provals in the world, Siemens Milltronics MSI has proven itself for decades in rug- ged industries across the globe. • Minimized downtime: with no moving parts, these belt scales hardly require any maintenance — they just work. • Increased productivity: operators know exactly how much potash is moving through the facility — crushers and mills can therefore consistently run at optimal levels. From the harsh mine environment to the control room, reliable, intelligent in- struments are the backbone of this grow- ing potash facility. Metso's Safer, Faster Screen Panel Attachment System Metso has introduced a new attachment system for its Trellex screening media that it claims offers increased productiv- ity and makes media change-outs safer and faster than with traditional systems. Until now, Metso said the removal of worn-out pin and sleeve screening media modules has been a time-consuming and potentially unsafe undertaking — but this new attachment system improves worker safety during change-outs, as there is no need to use a hammer when installing and removing screening media. The spe- cially developed pins can be screwed into place as well as removed using an impact driver. Accidents that occur when pins that are stuck get torn off by force can be avoided. In addition to improved safe- ty, the new attachment system reduces change-out time considerably, resulting in higher uptime and productivity. "In the past year, we've launched the web-based ScreenPlanner wear moni- toring system and invested in screening media manufacturing capacity," said Claes Larsson, global product manager for screening media at Metso. "The in- troduction of the hammerless attachment system is yet another step we are taking to help our screening media customers minimize downtime and maximize pro- ductivity." (See E&MJ;, September 2017, p. 50 for additional information on Met- so's ScreenPlanner software.) The new attachment system is now avail- able as a standard option for Trellex 305PS screening media in the most common build heights (40 mm to 60 mm), and will be in- troduced for additional build heights soon. The new attachment system doesn't require a hammer — the new-style pins screw into place, according to Metso.
