He joins MMG from China Minmetals Corp., where he is currently president of China Minmet- als Non-ferrous. Current CEO, Jerry Jiao has advised of his intention to return to Beijing in a senior executive position at CMC and will step down from the MMG CEO role in August. Juan Carlos Ortiz joined Compañia de Minas Bue- naventura S.A.A. as the vice president of operations, replacing Gonzalo Eyzaguirre who resigned April 30. Prior to assuming his new role at Buenaventura, Ortiz was the technical services manager at Vol- can Compañia Minera. Stefan Romedahl has been appointed as the new president business area mines and will be a mem- ber of Boliden's Group management. Romedahl will replace Mikael Staffas who will be president and CEO from June 1. He is currently director of Division North at LKAB. Pia Lindström will serve as acting president business area. Copper Mountain Mining announced its president and CEO James C. O'Rourke will be retiring on June 1. Gil Clausen, who was president and CEO of Brio Gold, will succeed O'Rourke and will also join the board of directors. O'Rourke will remain as nonexecutive chairman and director. Prior to Brio Gold, Clausen was president and CEO of Augusta Resource from its inception in 2005 until it was taken over by HudBay Minerals in 2014. Nevada Copper Corp. appointed Matthew Gili as presi- dent and CEO, effective May 1. Gili comes directly from Barrick, where he served as executive general manager for the Cortez District in Nevada and, more recently, as chief technical offi cer and senior vice president, oper- ations, projects. Lydian International announced that Howard Stevenson, presi- dent and CEO, resigned and the company appointed João Carrêlo as president and CEO and a member of the board. Carrêlo currently serves as a nonexecutive director on the boards of TMAC Resources and Lucky Minerals. He previously served as president, CEO and director of Eco Oro Minerals Corp. Argent Minerals Ltd. announced several changes. Pe- ter Wall has been appointed as non-executive direc- tor and chairman. Klaus Eckhof has stepped down as chairman and has been appointed as technical advisor, acquisitions. Wall is an experienced corporate lawyer and has been a partner at Steinepreis Paganin since July 2005. Richard Lively joined Encanto Potash Corp. following a career at Potash Corp where he was responsible for many aspects of mill operations. Lively will be reviewing Encanto's current development position with its fl agship Muskowe- kwan First Nation property, providing oversight and direction moving forward with the mining plan. Endeavour Silver Corp. announced several key management appointments in Mexico to augment the Operations group, including Marco Meneses as general manager for the Guanajuato District and the El Cubo and Bolanitos mines, Jorge Coss as the general manager for the Zacatecas District and the new El Compas mine, and Jose Luis Nevarez as the project leader for the Terronera mine development project. Endeavour has completed its search for a new vice president, project development, and expects to make an announcement in May. Tomas Iturriaga, vice president of operations, has resigned from his position. Godfrey Walton, COO, will assume Iturria- ga's responsibilities until a new appointment is made. Orocobre Ltd. advised that Richard Seville will step down from the role of managing director and CEO after 11 years in this role. He will remain on the board. Georgian Mining Corp. appoint- ed Simon Cleghorn as technical services manager. For the past fi ve years, Cleghorn served as resource manager and then tech- nical services manager for KEFI Minerals Plc. Albemarle Corp. named Dr. Glen Merfeld chief technol- ogy offi cer for its lithium business. Merfeld joined Albe- marle as a distinguished thought leader in the fi eld of energy materials and battery science, as well as a seasoned executive with more than 20 years in advanced materials with General Electric. Syndicated Metals Ltd. advised that Andrew Munckton will step down as managing director to take up another position. He will be succeeded by long-serving fellow director David Morgan. He was previously general man- ager operations for Equigold in Queensland. The American Iron and Steel Institute's (AISI) Board of Directors has elected AK Steel CEO Roger K. Newport as the new chairman, through May 2020. Liebherr USA Co. appointed Shane Kuhlmey as director of the mining equipment division. Telsmith hired Victor Ponce as regional sales manager covering California. Motion Industries announced that Ellen Holladay, the senior vice president chief infor- mation offi cer and operational excellence offi cer, is the 2018 recipient of the Bearings Specialists Association (BSA) Lifetime Achievement Award. She established 109 le- gally binding conditions, including mitiga- tion measures and follow-up requirements that Howse Minerals must meet throughout the life of the project as part of the environ- mental assessment decision statement. Labor Strike at Goderich Salt Mine Compass Minerals announced a strike has been initiated by the union representing 341 hourly employees at its salt mine in Goderich, Ontario. "The company has been in negotiations with the union since early March with the goal of reaching a negotiated agreement that focuses on the safety of our employees and represents the mine's current opera- tional environment," said Fran Malecha, Compass Minerals' president and CEO. "While a quick end to the strike would be preferable, we have contingency plans in place that will allow us to continue operat- ing the mine for the foreseeable future.
