54 E&MJ; • MAY 2018 www.e-mj.com SUPPLIERS REPORT ing two LF160 rigs, and a new LF350e rig. The LF350e deep-coring surface rig can reach up to a depth of 3,360 m of NQ V-Wall and can deliver 3,050 m of HQ core or 1800 m of PQ core using HRQ V-Wall and PHD V-Wall rods. In Africa, the company is purchasing two new Schramm T685WS rigs for multipurpose drilling ap- plications, including exploration, and add- ing two LF230 surface coring drill rigs. A 40,000-lb hoist on the F230 allows for rig depth capacity beyond its class. The rigs will enable the company to meet the needs of customers and could create op- portunities, the company reported. Metso Lands QIO Contract Quebec Iron Ore Inc. (QIO), subsidiary of a Montreal-based iron development and exploration company Champion Iron Ltd., signed a three-year strategic partnership agreement with Metso for the maintenance of Metso equipment with a life cycle services (LCS) contract. This agreement is designed to provide QIO with maximum availability of equipment to meet production targets for the Bloom Lake iron ore mine located near Fermont, Quebec. LCS takes the entire range of services Metso provides and bun- dles them into tailored packages, ranging from the basics to more complete solutions, depending on the customer's needs. Pack- ages are equipped to cover a single-event shutdown or span multiple years, measured against strict key performance indicators. Pybar Achieves Company-first at Hera Pybar announced an Eraser drill rig ex- ceeded expectations and achieved a com- pany-first at Aurelia Metals' Hera under- ground gold/copper mine in western New South Wales. The rig's initial scope of works allowed the Pybar team to test and prove all three of the rig's drilling modes: boxhole, down reaming and conventional. The initial scope at Hera was for 2-m x 1.4-m conventional reamed escapeways, which to date is the largest reamer used on an Easer machine. Later, the scope of works increased to 3-mm x 750-mm down reams, and 7-mm x 750-mm box- holes. Completing all three in the field amounted to a company-first. Siemens, Amplats Collaborate on Automation Siemens provided automation equipment and industrial networks to assist Anglo American Platinum's (Amplats) Engineer- ing Skills Training Centre (ESTC). One of the pillars of digitalization is industrial networks and security and it is crucial that these engineers understand the role of this technology in the future of mining, Siemens said. Siemens reported the partnership re- flects its commitment to continuously ex- panding its leadership role in industrial digitalization. The company reported it envisions opportunity in Africa to em- brace new technologies combined with human talent to accelerate industrializa- tion and drive economic growth. REMA Launches Belting Business Unit REMA TIP TOP launched its Belting Busi- ness Unit, which, the company reported, puts its global conveyor belt resources under one roof. The move will strengthen the com- pany's presence in the global conveyor belt market, REMA TIP TOP leadership reported. "Until now, all our brands have operated separately on the market," Udo Zimmer, CEO, REMA TIP TOP, said. "By moving closer together and better taking advantage of the synergies in our com- pany, we will be able to considerably in- crease our market share." The company reported that mega trends, such as the growth of the world population, increasing urbanization, and technological advancements on the Asian continent, are causing a boom in the steel industry, port logistics, the energy sector, and the con- Siemens partners with Anglo American Platinum to equip a center for training on networks and security.
