60 E&MJ; • MAY 2018 www.e-mj.com EQUIPMENT GALLERY Caterpillar released the Cat 24 Motor Grader for mine road maintenance. The grader is equipped with a 7.3-meter (m)- wide moldboard and is application-matched for medium to large mines running trucks with more than 180-metric-ton (mt)-pay- loads, the company reported. Standard Cat GRADE with Cross Slope improves operator productivity and haul road quality, which lowers truck tire wear, decreases rolling resistance and reduces premature tire failure, Cat reported. The grader features 15% more low-end torque than the Cat 24M. An 11% increase in machine weight provides additional blade down pressure and tractive force to increase blading per- formance, Cat reported. The Cat C27 engine with ACERT tech- nology prolongs target rebuild life by 33% over the C18 engine. The 533-mm, six-speed planetary transmission and improved rear-axle bevel gear and fi nal drive extend lower power-train ser- vice life by up to 33%, the company reported. Net power is 399 kilowatts (kW) to 518 kW. Operating weight is 73,344 kilograms. Top forward speed is 41.9 km/h. Top speed in reverse is 41.2 km/h. The grader is designed for quick component replacement, the company reported. The grader offers numerous safety features, to include 15 tie-off points, improved rearview visibility, and LED lights in the engine compartment. It is fi re suppression-ready and accommo- dates most fi re suppression systems, Cat reported. The Cat 24 is MineStar-ready, and comes standard with Cat VIMS and Product Link Elite, which delivers advanced machine operation reporting through VisionLink. www.cat.com System Applies Dust Suppressing Foam Reynolds Soil Technologies released a new, customizable foam-dispensing system to apply the company's Hi-Foam, de- signed to control dust with minimal moisture in bulk handling processes. The mechanical foaming system enhances the Hi- Foam dust-suppression solution through the controlled mixing of compressed air, water and the Hi-Foam formula. It creates a robust foam that captures and engulfs fi ne particles in a blanket that prevents dust from becoming airborne. The foam blanket wets dust particles to increase their weight, causing them to continue their journey through the conveying and crushing sys- tem without ever becoming airborne. The system utilizes a dosing feeder that injects the additive directly into the system's water line, allowing for the manual concentration adjustment of the solution. The air and water then mix in an expansion chamber capable of supplying a dust-sup- pressing foam to six dosing points at specifi c stages in the crushing and conveying circuit. The system is confi gured and installed to meet the needs of the operation. www.rstsolutions.com.au Gas-insulated Switchgear to Increase Uptime, Safety Power management company Eaton unveiled a new gas-insu- lated switchgear, the Power Xpert XGIS, designed to provide powerful advantages in safety and reliability for critical power applications. With the majority of high-voltage components in a sealed compartment, the technology is designed to reduce maintenance requirements, reduce the need for operators, and reduce space requirements in some voltage classes. Utilizing a sealed tank design, the switchgear is virtual- ly maintenance-free and can help reduce the potential for arc faults, contributing to dramatic enhancements in reliability and safety, Eaton reported. Maintenance requirements for any equipment inside a sealed tank are eliminated. The switchgear enables energized parts to be closer together, which can signifi cantly reduce space requirements, especially in 27- and 38-kilovoltage classes, the company reported. The equip- ment can be applied in both new construction and retrofi t applica- tions where fl oor space is limited. It can be applied in indoor ap- plications, including in both electrical rooms and integrated power assemblies or e-hous- es. It is third-party tested and certifi ed to International Electro- technical Commission (IEC) 62271-200. www.eaton.com Self-adjusting Blades ASGCO introduced the Pit-Skalper, a primary belt cleaner. The technology is based on the Skalper, which is used throughout the world in the harshest environments, the company reported. The Pit-Skalper is designed to handle the needs of portable crushing and screening plants while removing carryback from New Grader for Large Mine Roads
