PIT DEWATERING 86 E&MJ • JUNE 2018 Boart Longyear has multiyear contracts with the largest iron ore mining opera- tions in the Pilbara region of northern Western Australia (WA) to undertake water-well drilling at active and future mine sites. The company uses a fleet of dual-tube flooded reverse circulation (DTFR) water-well drill rigs to service the contract. Mounted on a highly mo- bile platform, these rigs can accommo- date casing diameters of up to 28 inches (in.) and attain deep drill targets with a powerful 130,000-lb pullback.
