125 YEARS OF EXPERTISE
To determine the exact nature of rock formations that
would bear the weight of the proposed Golden Gate
Bridge, Longyear
TM
drillers suspended equipment
over the blustery waters of the San Francisco Bay
on a platform supported by a boom, an A-frame and
guywires anchored on shore. Longyear was paid
$15,000 for its complicated drilling. The bridge,
completed in May 1937, cost $35 million.
